Another Gentle Nudge in a Spacey Direction

At this stage, I need to clear a couple of things up:

Hyperspaces will be priced around $15USD when it is released;
Hyperspaces augments Spaces — it doesn’t modify it’s behaviour. Hyperspaces won’t “fix” how Spaces interacts with windows or applications (at least not in version 1.0);

Still with me after that? Cool — I’m aiming for a public beta release at the beginning of March. Leah and I are settling the purchase of our first home next week, otherwise you’d have it sooner!

Ahh, but there’s not much to see there yet ;)
I’m currently negotiating to have a great UI designer do some work for me on Hyperspaces. It’s all very exciting!

Price looks good, too. Although I will have to purchase a copy of Leopard to run it ;). But Hypersaces is the one app that would make me do so.

I have my copy of Leopard sitting beside me, and there have been several things preventing me from upgrading: Time, having a backup-drive, the release of 10.5.2 (the well-documented ‘first-release’ bugs, and some of the UI stuff. I mean the dock, particularly.) and… Knowing that I’d lose my somewhat unstable but beloved VirtueDesktops. I really do use it a lot.
I also a little shy of trusting some of the documented hacks to make it work with Leopard. They’re a bit extreme.
I’ll have to make the jump from 10.4 to 10.5 very soon, but if you took pre-orders for Hyperspaces I’d be right in there already.

Hi Tony. I’m really looking forward to this being available. Would I be right in thinking that we can turn Apple’s Spaces off and just use this instead? The automatic switching between virtual desktops when I bring an app to the foreground is driving me nuts. Even more so than M$ Office!
PS. I’m a long time Mac developer, so if you need any beta testers give me a shout.

….ah, patience is a virtue!
As of 10.5.2 we can now stop the auto-switching with: defaults write com.apple.dock workspaces-auto-swoosh –bool NO killall Dock

@kevteljeur: There are hacks to run Virtue under 10.5? Virtue runs under 10.5, it just doesn’t work properly.
@Mark Allan: No, Hyperspaces augments Spaces — if you switch Spaces off, Hyperspaces will ask you to turn it back on. The two are linked.

Tony — will Hyperspaces have desktop switching via ambient light sensor and/or sudden motion sensor? That is the part I miss most!

@Albe Gouws: It doesn’t in the current alpha builds, but that’s why it’s alpha — I’m still determining the 1.0 feature set. It wouldn’t be a huge amount of work to put these in, but I’d want to make sure they work properly this time around.
