Ruby on Rails logo Ruby on Rails has reached version 1.0 – Congratulations to all of the team!

Without further ado, here is an updated version of the Ruby on Rails installer package I maintain. I will be receiving assistance with hosting this package, so please do use the mirrors as they become available and try to take it easy on my server in the meantime. I would encourage people to send this file to their friends via iChat, FTP, e-mail - basically whatever works for you - let's get this out there and get people riding the rails!

This package requires Mac OS X "Tiger" (10.4), and is only compiled for PowerPC at this point. An Intel version will be available early next year.

The file is roughly 7.2 Mb in size.

Thanks for the package! I've downloaded and installed it but couldn't find it on my system. Where should it be?

You'll find the rails binary at /usr/bin/rails

I recommend everyone go watch the great tutorials and screencasts at http://rubyonrails.com if you're not sure where to start.

can you please make an uninstaller. can you please also write down everything that your installer installs.

Josh, the installer is just a package for the built in Mac OS X Installer application, which unfortunately does not provide uninstall functionality. As for a list of what it installs, go to /Library/Receipts, double click "Ruby On Rails Installer.pkg", and choose Show Files from the File menu to see a complete listing. You can do this before you install the package, too.

Thanks for the installer! I installed it on OSX, but could you tell me where to start now? Do I need to start ROR in the terminal? And how can I access it with Textmate. Hope you could point me the right direction.

@Josh. Try http://krugazor.free.fr/software/desinstaller/DesInstaller.php

It is a program that reads the "bill of materials" for installed packages and allows the user to delete them.

Make certain that you understand what you are removing, though, as the un-installer also lists required OS files and allows you to delete them just as easily.

Hi, I think a lot of curious people are going to download this, install it and not know what to do next. You might want to lead into your download with some very clear and basic instruction and overview unless you want to answer a lot of questions . . . especially when you're in the top 5 on Google for "ruby on rails install." Most people don't even know what ruby on rails is, just that it's really cool and hip! ;)

Thanks for providing this installer. When I tried it on a brand-new Tiger, it says "There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again."

I've tried it 3 times with the same results...Any ideas?
